Michael more sicko movie poster

Sicko is a documentary film by Michael Moore, scheduled for release on June 29, 2007 in the US and August 16th in Australia. It investigates the American health care system with a focus on the behaviour of large health insurance companies and contrasts the U.S. system with those of other countries with universal health care coverage.

When asked about this movie, Michael Moore said, "If people ask, we tell them Sicko is a comedy about 45 million people with no health care in the richest country on Earth.

In the film Michael Moore accompanies a number of rescue workers injured after the World Trade Center attacks of 2001 to the U.S. Guantanamo Bay detainment camp (an American territory) to ask for health care for the 9/11 responders. When unable to receive care there, they move on to Havana, Cuba, so that they can receive medical treatment they would otherwise not be able to afford. In an interview with Time Magazine, Moore states "I’m not trumpeting Castro or his regime. I just want to say to fellow Americans, "C’mon, we’re the United States! If they can [provide care for all] we can do it."

The film also covers Moore's travels to Canada, France and the United Kingdom, investigating their health care systems and comparing them to those provided in the United States. The trailer is below.

Knocked Up Movie Trailer

June 20th 2007 09:06
On the heels of 2005's blockbuster The 40-year-old virgin, writer/director Judd Apatow again mines hilarity from the relatably human in a comedy about a one-night stand with unexpected consequences. Katherine Heigl joins Virgin alums Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for a comic look about the best thing that will ever ruin your best-laid plans - parenthood.

Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance.

An overgrown kid who has no desire to settle down, Ben learns that he has a big decision to make with his kid's mum-to-be. Will he hit the road or stay in the picture? Courting a woman you've just 'knocked up', however, proves to be a little difficult when the two try their hands at dating. As they discover more about one another, it becomes painfully obvious that they're not the soul mates they'd hoped they might be.

With Allison's harried sister Debbie (Leslie Mann) and hen-pecked brother-in-law Pete (Paul Rudd) the only parenting role models the young lovers have, things get even more confusing. Should they raise the baby together? What makes a happy lifetime partnership after all? A couple of drinks and one wild night later, they've got nine confusing months to figure it out...

Knocked up will be released in Australia on July 5th.
