The Darjeeling Limited

August 24th 2007 13:36
The Darjeeling Limited is the fifth film by Wes Anderson, to be released on September 29 2007 in the United States. It is at least partially set in India. It is written by Anderson, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman.

Darjeeling Limited Movie Poster

In June 2007, the New York Film Festival announced that The Darjeeling Limited would open the annual festival in September of 2007, honouring the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men. The film will also compete for the Golden Lion at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.

An official trailer for the film was released in July 2007. It features two songs by The Kinks, ("Strangers" and "This Time Tomorrow", both from the 1970 album Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One), and a song by Satyajit Ray, ("Charu Theme" from the film Charulata). It is yet unknown if The Kinks will be featured on the film's soundtrack, though songs from the films of Satyajit Ray will.

The story involves three estranged brothers (played by Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman) who take a train ride through India after the death of their father. The fictional long-distance train "Darjeeling Limited", apparently named after the short narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, provides the backdrop for the brothers trying to grow closer together. The film also stars Amara Karan, Anjelica Huston and Natalie Portman.
