Starring Daniel Craig and directed by Edward Zwick, Defiance is a World War 2 film based on the true story of the Bielski partisans. Craig plays one of four Jewish brothers from Poland. After the Nazi invasion they escape into the forest where they meet up with members of the Russian resistance. They then hatch a plan to fight back and rescue their comrades. The movie follows their story as they rescue up to 1200 Jews while trying to avoid capture themselves. It will be released in the USA on January 19th, 2009. The Australian release date is February 26th.

Starring Isla Fisher, Confessions of a Shopaholic is the film adaptations of two chick lit novels by Sophie Kinsella called The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Abroad.
Confessions of a Shopaholic

Rebecca Bloomwood (Fisher) is a college graduate and confessed shopaholic. She moves to Manhattan to feed her addiction and become involved in the magazine world. Rebecca builds up a mountain of debt, but somehow manages to land a job as a financial advice columnist advising girls on what not to do. Along the way she falls in love with a young entrepreneur, and has many humorous adventures.
The film will be released in the USA on February 13th, 2009. The Australian release date is February 26th.

The Secret Life of Bees is a drama film based on the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Sue Monk Kidd. Set in 1964, it tells the story of Lily Owens (played by Dakota Fanning), a young girl in South Carolina who has a haunted memory of her late mother and a troubled relationship with her father. She escapes with her caregiver and only friend Rosaleen to a small town in South Carolina. There they are taken in by the Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okonedo) where Lily finds solace in their memorizing world.
The Australian release date is February 19th, 2009.

The Unborn is a supernatural thriller starring Gary Oldman as Sandek, a spiritual advisor to Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) a young girl who is haunted by the soul of her unborn twin.
Casey was always angry with her mother for leaving her as a child, but with Sandek's help she begins to understand why. Her family is cursed, by a creature which can inhabit or posses anyone or anything, and it's getting stronger. The death or her twin in the womb pried open a door to another world, and Casey must close it before it's too late.
The Unborn will be released in the USA on January 9th, 2009. The Australian release date is January 22nd.

Nathaniel Ayers is a virtuoso musician. He received a scholarship to attend the world renowned Juilliard School in New York City. Unfortunately during his second year at the school Nathaniel suffered a mental breakdown, was diagnosed with schizophrenia and institutionalised. He later ended up on the streets of LA eking out a meagre living playing old and broken violins and cellos.
Steve Lopez, a reporter from the Los Angeles Times discovers Nathanial at Pershing Square and learns about his background. The pair developed a relationship which Lopez wrote about in his column and later a book. This story is now being made into a movie.

Red Cliff

The Battle of Red Cliffs, otherwise known as the Battle of Chibi, was a decisive battle in Chinese history. It took place during the winter of 208 AD at the end of Han Dynasty, immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in China. It was fought between the allied forces of the southern warlords Liu Bei and Sun Quan, who were outnumbered by the forces of the northern warlord Cao Cao who was trying to take the land south of the Yangtze river. Liu Bei and Sun Quan's alliance proved victorious and this victory at Red Cliffs gave them control of the Yangtze and provided a line of defence that was the basis for the later creation of the two southern kingdoms of Shu Han and Eastern Wu
