James Bond - Quantum of Solace

July 14th 2008 14:24
Quantum of Solace is the 22nd James Bond film by EON Productions, due for release in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2008 and in North America on 7 November. The Australian release date is November 27th. The sequel to Casino Royale (2006), it is directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig's second performance as James Bond. In the film, Bond battles Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organisation posing as an environmentalist, who intends to stage a coup d'état in Bolivia to take control of its water supply. Bond seeks revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd, and is assisted by Camille (Olga Kurylenko). The title was chosen from an unrelated short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only (1960).

James Bond 22 - Quantum of Solace

Filming took place in Panama, Chile, Italy, Austria and Pinewood Studios. There will be more gadgets than in Casino Royale, though they will still aim to be realistic.

The film continues "an hour after" Casino Royale's conclusion, when Mr. White is shot and captured by Bond at Lake Como. Bond is then involved in a car chase in Siena, Italy. The official synopsis shows that White reveals to Bond and M that his organisation (called Quantum) has agents in Her Majesty's Government and the Central Intelligence Agency. Forensic evidence of an MI6 traitor leads Bond to Haiti, where he meets Camille, who then helps him find Dominic Greene, a ruthless businessman and chairman of Greene Planet, the legitimate cover for Quantum.

Greene intends to use his government contacts to help overthrow the current regime in Bolivia, and place the exiled General Medrano as the head of state. Medrano will in exchange give him a barren piece of land, which will actually give them total control of the nation's water supply. Bond travels to Austria and South America to unravel Greene's plan, staying one step ahead of the CIA, terrorists, and M whilst trying to keep his desire for retribution over Vesper Lynd's death in check.

The Incredible Hulk

April 4th 2008 12:05
The Incredible Hulk is a superhero film based on the Marvel comic of the same name, set for release on June 13, 2008. It is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, William Hurt as her father General Thaddeus Ross and Tim Roth as the villainous Emil Blonsky, known in the comics as the Abomination. The film follows Banner as he flees the pursuit of General Ross and attempts a cure to rid himself of the Hulk. But when Blonsky injects himself with Banner's gamma formula and becomes an even greater monster, Banner must accept his own inner beast and defeat Blonsky. The film will be released in the USA on June 13th. The Australian release date is June 12th.

After the 2003 film Hulk, Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to the character, and writer Zak Penn began work on a loose sequel that would be closer to the comics and the television series. Norton rewrote the script after he signed on to star, severing ties to its predecessor by retelling the origin story in flashbacks and revelations. Filming mostly took place in Toronto, Canada in 2007, and the film's crew went to great lengths to reduce the production's carbon emissions. Letterier's direction aimed to make the monsters look more realistic and frightening. He redesigned the Abomination, who in the comics is a reptilian KGB agent, into a mutant soldier

X-Files 2

March 21st 2008 12:36
The X-Files sequel which has the working title "Done One" is the second feature film based on the TV series The X-Files, following the 1998 film of the same name. The sequel is directed by the TV series creator Chris Carter and written by Carter and Frank Spotnitz. The film was first anticipated in November 2001 to follow the conclusion of the ninth season of the TV series, but it remained in development hell for six years before entering production in December 2007 in Vancouver. The stars of the TV series, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, return to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The premise of the film is not yet publicly known, but many of those involved, including Carter, Duchovny, and 20th Century Fox, have spoken of the film as one that would stand alone and be apart from the mythology of the TV series. The film is slated for a July 25, 2008 release in the USA. The Australian release date is July 24th.

Due to the highly secretive nature of the project, very little is known about the movie's plot. It is known that, unlike the first film, the plot will not focus on the series' ongoing "mythology" and will instead be a standalone thriller/horror story, similar to many of the "monster-of-the-week" episodes that were frequently seen in the TV series
