The Marine is a 2006 film directed by John Bonito, and starring professional wrestler John Cena. It is being produced by WWE Films and will be released by 20th Century Fox on October 13, 2006. The filming was done in Queensland, Australia.
John Triton (Cena) is a heroic Marine who returns home after being discharged against his will from the Iraq War. Stateside, he finds himself back in action, when his wife Kate (Kelly Carlson) is kidnapped by a murderous gang led by the merciless Rome (Robert Patrick). With everything on the line, the Marine will stop at nothing to carry out his toughest and most important mission.
It will be released on October 13, 2006.
Interesting Facts:
Stone Cold Steve Austin wanted to play the main role of this film. Supposedly not getting the role was one of the reasons he walked away from WWE in 2004.
The film was originally planned for a January or February 2006 release, then moved to Spring 2006 and then to September 8, 2006 which they changed because The Rock's newest movie comes out a week before. Finally it has been set on the date of October 13th.
John Cena was absent from WWE programming for a period of time to film this movie. In order to not break storyline, the reason for his absence given on WWE programming was that he was stabbed in a bar fight. Cena went as far as to claim the incident as 'real' on various radio stations.
Cena has taken to using the American Military salute during his more recent appearances in the WWE.
