Babel is a 2006 drama film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga. It stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Koji Yakusho and Gael García Bernal. The film was first screened at Cannes. The movie was also shown to audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was met with positive reviews. The film will complete Iñárritu's "Death trilogy" that also consists of Amores Perros and 21 Grams. The film is scheduled to be released on October 27, 2006 in the US, Boxing Day in Australia and January 5th, 2007 in the UK. Brad Pitt is tipped for an Oscar nomination for his performance.
Armed with a Winchester rifle, two Moroccan boys set out to look after their family’s herd of goats. In the silent echoes of the desert, they decide to test the rifle… but the bullet goes farther than they thought it would shooting a vacationing American couple. In an instant, the lives of four separate groups of strangers on three different continents collide. Caught up in the rising tide of an accident that escalates beyond anyone’s control are a vacationing American couple (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett), a rebellious deaf Japanese teenager (Rinko Kikuchi) and her father (Kôji Yakusho), and a Mexican nanny (Adriana Barraza) who, without permission, takes two American children across the border. None of these strangers will ever meet; in spite of the sudden, unlikely connection between them, they will all remain isolated due to their own inability to communicate meaningfully with anyone around them.
