Angels & Demons

The Prequel to the hugely popular Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, Angels & Demons once again stars Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, the Harvard Professor of symbology. Ron Howard will also return to direct the film.
Angels & Demons will be released in the USA on May 15th, 2009. The Australian release date is May 14th.

Robert Langdon, is summoned to CERN (Swiss research facility) to analyse a mysterious symbol burned into the chest of Leonardo Vetra, a murdered physicist. During his investigation, Langdon discovers evidence of the re-emergence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati, a powerful underground anti-religious organisation.

Together with Vetra’s daughter, he travels to Rome to stop four cardinals, all in line to be Pope, from being murdered, and to search for a stolen, destructive weapon that could kill millions and bring Rome down to rubble.

Revolutionary Road

Revolutionary Road trailer

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road is a British & American drama/ romance movie based on the novel of the same name. It will be released in the USA on December 26th, 2008 and the UK on January 30th, 2009. The Australian release date is January 22nd.

Set in 1955, the plot focuses on the hopes and aspirations of Frank and April Wheeler, self-assured Connecticut suburbanites who see themselves as very different from their neighbours in the Revolutionary Hill Estates. April is an aspiring actress who yearns to move to Paris, while Frank copes with toiling away at a corporate job he despises by drinking too heavily and engaging in an affair with a co-worker. The couple's marriage slowly dissolves into an endless cycle of bitter arguments and jealous recriminations.

Doubt

Doubt is a Drama/Mystery film set in an American Catholic school in 1964. Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep) plays an elder sister who has strong morals but is not well liked by the children. Father Brendan Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is a priest with new ideas. He is kind to and popular with the students. He attempts to pass on some modern ideas to Sister Beauvier but this is not well received.
Events at the school take a dark turn when Father Flynn is suspected by Sister Beauvier of abusing some of the children. She is convinced of Father Flynn’s guilt but has no evidence whatsoever. Other staff at the school are divided, is Father Flynn truly guilty or is Sister Beauvier's dislike for him clouding her judgement?

The film contains rapid dialogue and tackles many themes, mainly focusing on religion, morality and authority.

Seven Pounds

Seven Pounds starring Will Smith

After working together on The Pursuit of Happyness , Will Smith and director Gabriele Muccino have teamed up again on Seven Pounds.
Also starring Woody Harrelson and Rosario Dawson, the plot revolves around Ben (Will Smith) as an IRS agent who makes a terrible mistake in his life which took only seven seconds. To make amends, he decides to find seven strangers with troubled lives and change them for the better. One of the strangers is Emily (Rosario Dawson), a beautiful woman with a heart condition who Ben falls in love with, complicating his plans.
Part romantic comedy but mostly drama, Seven Pounds tells an emotional tale.
It will be released in the USA on December 19th, 2008. The Australian release date is January 1st, 2009.

Changeling

In Los Angeles in 1928, Christine Collins' 10 year old son Walter was kidnapped and murdered in the Wineville Chicken Murders. After Walter's disappearance, police found a runaway in Illinois who claimed to be Walter Collins. They gave this boy to Christine and tried to convince her that he was her son. She of course refused to believe it leading to great embarrassment for the police force. Christine was then thrown in the psychiatric ward of the Los Angeles County General Hospital, and was only released after the boy admitted he was not Walter after all. Walter's remains were later found near a Chicken Coup in Wineville.
The case gained nationwide attention throughout the saga.
The Changeling Poster

Changeling is loosely based on this story. It is directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Angelina Jolie as Christine Collins as she fights a corrupt police force in her bid to discover the truth as to what happened to her son.
It will be released on October 31st,2008 in the USA. The Australian release date is New Year's Day, 2009.

Youth Without Youth is Francis Ford Coppola's first film in ten years. It is based on the Novella of the same name which Coppola loves very much. He has said it is very personal and not a standard Hollywood film
