Starring writer/actor, Leigh Whannell (Saw) and Nathan Phillips, Dying Breed is an Australian horror film shot in Tasmania and Melbourne. It will be released on November 6th.
Tasmania's most famous bushranger and convict Alexander Pearce, known as the Pieman was hanged for cannibalism in 1824. He is well known for escaping into the wilderness from a maximum security prison with seven other inmates, and then being the only one to emerge on the other side with human flesh in his pockets. Dying Breed focuses on the descendants of the Pieman who allegedly still survive in the Western Tasmanian bush and continue the family's cannibalistic traditions. Many hikers disappear in remote areas of the state, and their bodies are never found.
A zoologist and friends head out on an expedition to find evidence that the Tasmanian Tiger still survives in Western Tasmania. While there they inadvertently stumble across a hidden colony of Piemen descendants. They want to remain secret, but need food to eat, and fresh breeding stock to survive….
