February 6th 2008 06:40
The Mongol is a historical war film about the young Genghis Khan. It is planned to be the first in a trilogy about Genghis Khan's life.
The film was an international co-production between companies in Germany, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. Shooting took place, for the most part, in the People's Republic of China, principally Inner Mongolia (a Chinese province largely inhabited by Mongols) and in Kazakhstan. The film is currently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film as a submission from Kazakhstan. The film will be released in the USA and UK on June 6th. The Australian release date is March 20th, 2008.
The movie is an epic story of a young Genghis Khan and how events in his early life lead him to become a legendary conqueror. As a boy he passes through starvation, humiliations and even slavery, but later with the help of his love Borte he overcomes all of his childhood hardships to become one of the greatest conquerors the world has ever known.
