U2 3D is the first live-action movie to be shot, produced, and screened exclusively with digital 3-D technology. The film is composed of footage from several shows from U2's Vertigo Tour in 2006. It is the band's second movie, after 1988's Rattle and Hum. It will be released in Australia on April 10th.
U2 3D digital poster

U2 3D puts viewers within the pulsing energy of a live U2 stadium concert. Marrying innovative digital 3D imagery and 5.1 Surround Sound, it creates an immersive theatrical experience unlike any 3D or concert film that has come before. Shot in South America during the `Vertigo` tour, U2 3D continues the band’s use of technology to create exceptional multi sensory experiences.
"Bono wanted to go somewhere magical" with the creation of "U2 3D", says director Catherine Owens; he was seeking an intensity the already ecstatic feelings evoked by U2's live concerts.
The film, primarily directed by Irish artist Catherine Owens, and Mark Pellington, who co-directed the live shoot and provided invaluable creative support throughout post-production, sets out to capture the band's relationship with each other and the resonant response of their fans.
The first digital 3D, multi-camera, real-time production, the film was brought to life by 3ality Digital, who shot over 100 hours of footage with the largest collection of 3D camera technology ever used on a single project.

The trailer for U2 3D is below:

Nothing in life has come easily for 16-year-old street dancer Andie West (Briana Evigan) - nothing, that is, except dance. After her mother died, she was taken in by her mother's best friend, Sarah (Sonja Sohn), but for Andie, Sarah's house is just one more place she doesn't belong; her only real family is her dance crew, the 410, and her guardian angel from the neighborhood, Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum). After Andie skips school for the hundredth time to rehearse with the 410, Sarah tells her she's had enough - she's sending Andie to live with her aunt in Texas. But luckily for Andie, Tyler steps in and saves the day: he convinces Sarah to let Andie stay in Baltimore if she agrees to attend the Maryland School of the Arts. Now all Andie has to do is get in.

Once Andie lands at MSA, she finds herself fighting to fit in while also trying to hold onto her old life. Her school commitments quickly start taking up all her time, and after she misses one too many 410 rehearsals, her crew throws her out. But Andie refuses to give up; instead, she joins forces with the MSA's hottest dancer Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman), and they recruit a crew of their classmates to compete in Baltimore's underground dance battle, The Streets. Sparks fly between Andie and Chase, and she ultimately finds a way to live her dream while building a bridge between her two separate worlds.

The trailer for Step Up 2 the Streets is below:

To prepare for the role of Chase, Robert Hoffman actually went into the Baltimore city underground dance scene and participated in competitive break dance circles.

The Nightmare Before Christmas, 3D

October 1st 2007 06:58
Nightmare Before Christmas 3D Poster

Despite having recently presided over a very successful Halloween, Jack Skellington, aka the Pumpkin King, is bored with his job and feels that life in Halloweenland lacks meaning. Then he stumbles upon Christmastown and promptly decides to make the Yuletide his own.
The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D will be released on October 20th, 2007 in the US and October 25th in Australia.

Nightmare originally opened in wide release on October 29, 1993. Although it received generally positive reviews by critics, with a 97% "fresh" at Rotten Tomatoes, the film struggled to find an audience. It eventually earned a respectable $53 million at the box office, but still was not nearly as successful as many other Disney films of that time.
The film won the 1994 Golden Globe Award for best original score. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Visual Effects, but lost to Industrial Light & Magic's dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
When The Nightmare Before Christmas was released on video on September 30, 1994, it gradually gained a cult following. In the late 90's, its following boomed; it has since become a mainstream hit, and is even considered a Halloween/Christmas classic.
On October 20, 2006, a remastered Disney Digital 3D version of the film was released in select theatres. In conjunction with the 3D re-release, Disney released a special two-disc soundtrack album on October 24, 2006. It features musical artists such as Fall Out Boy, Marilyn Manson, Panic! at the Disco, Fiona Apple and She Wants Revenge, who contribute cover versions of songs featured in the film. The album quickly rose to #4 on the iTunes Top Albums chart.

A preview for a 2007 3D re-release was shown along with Meet The Robinsons. The 2007 theatre release in North America is October, 20, 2007.

There has been talk of adapting the show for Broadway.

Dreamgirls Movie Preview

November 24th 2006 06:31
Dreamgirls is an upcoming musical film set in the 1960s and 1970s with a predominantly African-American cast. It is adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls, which itself is loosely based upon the lives and careers of Motown act The Supremes. The film adaptation stars Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles, and Eddie Murphy, also featuring Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose, Keith Robinson, and, in her film debut, Jennifer Hudson (of American Idol fame). Jamie Foxx and Beyoncé Knowles are possible Oscar nominees for their respective performances. It will be released wide into North America on Christmas Day. The Australian release date is January 18th.

Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson - three friends from Chicago - are a promising singing trio called The Dreamettes. Accompanied by their songwriter C.C. White (Effie's brother), they travel to New York to compete in a talent show at the Apollo Theatre. Although the girls lose this first bid for fame, their talent attracts an ambitious manager by the name of Curtis Taylor, Jr., who uses unscrupulous tactics to move the girls from backup singers of superstar James "Thunder" Early to superstars of their own. Curtis reshapes the group to "crossover" from R & B to the lucrative pop music scene. Lead singer Effie gets replaced by the more attractive Deena and is eventually dropped from the trio. The group evolves into a more sophisticated group, The Dreams, with a lighter sound and chic look. They successfully attract a "whiter" audience and The Dreams rise to international stardom. The money, fame, and adulation, however, doesn't bring them happiness
