Blindness

July 18th 2008 15:25
Blindness is an upcoming dramatic thriller film that is an adaptation of the 1995 novel Blindness by José Saramago about a society suffering an epidemic of blindness. The film is written by Don McKellar and directed by Fernando Meirelles with Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo as the stars. The novel's author originally refused to sell rights for a film adaptation, not wanting it to fall into the wrong hands. Meirelles was able to acquire rights with the condition that the film would be set in an unrecognizable city. The director chose São Paulo as the primary backdrop for Blindness, though scenes were also filmed in Ontario, Canada and Montevideo, Uruguay.

Julianne Moore plays the only person immune to the epidemic of blindness. Her sight is kept a secret by her husband and others, though as time goes on, she feels isolated in being the only one with sight. With all the characters aside from Julianne Moore's character being blind, the cast was trained to simulate blindness. Meirelles also stylized the film to reflect the lack of point-of-view that the characters would experience. Blindness premiered as the opening film at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2008, and the film is commercially scheduled for limited release in the United States on September 12, 2008. The Australian release date is October 2nd.

Black Water Movie Preview

April 11th 2008 10:50
Based on a true story, Black Water is a thriller that sounds a now familiar warning - that Australia can be a dangerous place for a holiday. Black Water is based in realism. It stalks the line between horror and psychological thriller, a tale of true survival, that begs the question what would you do? How would you get out alive? Black Water will be released in Australia on April 24th, 2008.

The makers of Black Water didn't want to use limp CGI crocs in their film. If you want to know what it's like to be stalked by a croc, you've got to use real crocs! They went to the north of Australia and braved the waters with real salt water crocodiles.
A movie camera was nearly lost, having to be torn from the jaws of a crocodile on the second day of shooting.
Black Water Crocodile Poster

Grace, her boyfriend Adam and her younger sister Lee are on holiday in Northern Australia and decide to take a river tour with Jim, their guide.
As they drift into the mangrove swamp their boat is suddenly capsized and Jim disappears. Realising they've been attacked by a crocodile, Adam drags Grace to the safety of a tree whilst Lee clings to the top of the overturned boat. Adam and Grace frantically try to manoeuvre Lee and the boat to the tree but it is firmly stuck. Stranded in the flooded mangrove swamp, the three holiday makers must work out what to do to survive. They must somehow elude a man eating crocodile, reclaim their overturned boat and get back down river alive. But will they make it?

Valkyrie

November 14th 2007 01:48
Valkyrie is a 2008 historical thriller film directed by Bryan Singer and starring Tom Cruise. The film is based on the July Plot of German army officers to assassinate Hitler. Cruise will portray the leader of the plot, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. Cruise's portrayal caused controversy among German politicians and members of Stauffenberg's family due to the actor's practice of Scientology, though German newspapers and filmmakers gave support to the film to spread global awareness of von Stauffenberg's attempted plot. The filmmakers of Valkyrie initially had difficulty setting up filming locations in Germany, but they were later given leeway to film in locations pertaining to the film's story, such as Berlin's historic Bendlerblock. It will be released on June 27th, 2008.
